Army bivvy bags (also known as bivi bags) are waterproof sleeping bag covers, and they are a bit bigger (about the size of a 1 man tent). They are usually made from breathable materials such as Gore-Tex and they pack down to a very small and convenient size. The name bivvy bag comes from the term 'bivouac' which is a temporary shelter. The British Army's bivy bag is a very simple design (with no bells or whistles) but its still totally functional and has great quality hard wearing material. When we say "simple design" this is because there is no side zip, no snap closures or fastenings, no velcro to get clogged up with fluff! You get in through the wide opening top, then you tighten the bag with the drawstring, and you are all set for a dry night in your choice of outdoor setting.

The British Army bivvy is made from material called MVP (Moisture Vapour Permeable), which is a waterproof and breathable membrane—like Gore-Tex®.
